Chemical peels are designed to resurface the skin by inducing a controlled wound or skin trauma, by removing superficial layers of the skin through accelerated skin regeneration and creating cell necrosis to weaken/damaged skin cell DNA within keratinocytes and melanocytes. 2. Peeling helps to influence the dermal activity - all of Medik8 peels are superficial meaning the acids can only penetrate to the epidermal layers. However through impacting the epidermis growth, the acids start to disturb the dermal layer, in particular the fibroblast cells - this becomes stimulated to provide recovery to the skin and will uplift type 1, 3 & 5 collagen production. 3. As a result, peeling the skin can promote the growth of a new healthy skin cells and a renewed stratum corneum to help improve skin problems like hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, uneven texture and skin impurities.

Aftercare
* Mild redness or tightness is normal for 24–48 hours. * Keep the skin very hydrated using gentle, non-active moisturiser (Medik8 recommended). * Use only products approved for post-peel use. * Apply SPF 30–50 daily — UV protection is essential for 7–10 days. * Avoid makeup for at least 24 hours (48 hours preferred). * If light flaking occurs, allow it to shed naturally — no picking or scrubbing. * Hydrating masks and LED can support healing and comfort. * Increase water intake to help skin repair.
Precautions
* Avoid heat, sweating, steam rooms, hot showers and exercise for 48 hours. * Avoid AHAs, BHAs, retinol, vitamin C, scrubs and actives for 5–7 days. * Avoid swimming, chlorinated pools and spas for 72 hours. * No tanning beds or unprotected sun exposure for at least 1–2 weeks. * If irritation occurs, use a calming gel, hyaluronic serum or cold compress. * Always follow the peel frequency recommended by your therapist.
